I provide specialist SEND advocacy and drafting support for families navigating the Education, Health and Care (EHC) process.
Each service below relates to a specific stage of the SEND journey—from EHC needs assessment requests through to EHCP reviews, tribunal appeals and working documents.
If you would like to book a service, or if you have any questions before deciding which support is right for you, please get in touch via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or email.
If you’re unsure which service best fits your circumstances, you can arrange a 30-minute SEND Advice Call, or send a brief enquiry and I’ll point you towards the most appropriate service.
Please note that detailed advice on individual cases is provided through booked appointments only.
Advice to help you understand your options, decide on the right next steps, and begin the Education, Health and Care (EHCP) process.
A one-to-one consultation to discuss your child’s SEND journey, answer your questions, and provide tailored advice on the most appropriate next steps.
This service is ideal if you’re unsure where to start, whether your child may need an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), whether you should request an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA), or if you simply need professional guidance to help you understand your options.
A short follow-up appointment for families with an ongoing case. This service is only available in relation to an existing matter currently being supported by The SEND Friend. If you require advice regarding a new matter or a different child, please book a 30-Minute SEND Consultation.
Often referred to as “applying for an EHCP”.
A fully drafted request for an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA), tailored to your child’s individual needs and circumstances.
This service is suitable where you believe your child may require an EHCP but have not yet made a formal request to the Local Authority.
I will prepare the full application, drawing together the information and evidence you provide to create a legally informed, clear case for why an EHCNA is required.
Professional support to review, strengthen and amend your child’s EHCP, helping to ensure their needs and provision are clearly identified and properly reflected in the plan. For a detailed comparison of the two EHCP Draft Check services and guidance on which option may be right for you, please visit the EHCP Draft Checking page.
A professional review of your draft EHCP and supporting evidence, with personalised written guidance identifying missing or inaccurate needs, inadequate provision and areas where amendments should be considered.
This is suitable to families who would like professional guidance but are happy to make the amendments and write their representations themselves.
A comprehensive review of your draft EHCP and supporting professional evidence, identifying missing evidence, gaps in the plan, and areas that may not meet statutory requirements, with the recommended amendments completed on your behalf.
You will receive a fully amended draft EHCP, with requested amendments cross-referenced to the relevant professional advice, together with a supporting covering letter, ready to submit to the Local Authority.
Professional support to help you prepare for your child’s Annual Review and ensure the EHCP continues to accurately reflect their needs and the provision they require.
Support can include reviewing the EHCP and supporting evidence, identifying key issues and proposed amendments, and advocacy at the Annual Review meeting, either remotely or in person.
Choose the level of support you need, from preparation and advice through to meeting attendance and advocacy.
Professional support for families challenging Local Authority decisions through the SEND Tribunal, from preparing an appeal through to Working Documents and ongoing case support. Tribunal appeals can vary considerably in complexity, so services can be used individually or combined depending on the stage of your appeal and the level of support you require.
Professional support to challenge a Local Authority decision not to carry out an EHCNA.
I will review the refusal decision and evidence, identify where the Local Authority’s reasoning does not properly reflect the evidence or statutory test, and prepare the full appeal ready for submission to the SEND Tribunal.
Suitable where the Local Authority has refused an EHC Needs Assessment (EHCP Application) requested by you or the school.
Reduced to £100 where I completed the original EHCNA Request.
Professional support to challenge a Local Authority decision not to issue an EHCP following an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment.
I will review the decision and evidence, identify where the LA's reasoning is unsupported or where evidence is missing.
I will prepare the full appeal, including evidence-based Grounds which directly challenge the decision and set out why an EHCP is necessary.
Suitable where an EHCNA has taken place but the LA has not issued an EHCP.
A comprehensive appeal service for families who believe their child’s final EHCP does not accurately or lawfully reflect their needs, provision or appropriate placement.
I will undertake a detailed review of the EHCP and professional evidence, identify omissions, weak or unlawful wording and evidential gaps, and determine the amendments that should be sought.
I will then prepare the full SEND Tribunal appeal on your behalf, with clear, evidence-based Grounds of Appeal.
Where I have already completed a Full & Thorough EHCP Draft Check for the EHCP being appealed, this service is available at the reduced fee of £150.
This reflects the substantial preparatory work already completed, including reviewing the professional evidence, identifying the issues within the EHCP and drafting the proposed amendments.
The reduced fee applies where the appeal follows directly from the EHCP I have reviewed and there have not been substantial changes or significant new evidence.
Professional support to prepare, review and develop your SEND Tribunal Working Document throughout an EHCP appeal.
I can prepare the Working Document from the outset or take over an existing version, reviewing what has already been proposed, agreed or disputed and drafting evidence-based amendments.
As Working Documents can pass between parties multiple times, this service is charged in stages, so you only pay for the support required. Any further work and costs will be agreed with you in advance.
Professional advocacy and representation for families who would like support throughout their SEND Tribunal appeal.
I can assist with case preparation, evidence, negotiations with the Local Authority, Working Documents and hearing preparation, as well as attend the Tribunal hearing as your representative and advocate on your behalf.
Tribunal appeals vary significantly in complexity, so the level of support and fees will be agreed based on your individual case.
As you will know, every child and young person has their own individual needs, circumstances and experiences. The support they and their family need is equally individual, and SEND advocacy rarely fits neatly into a set of boxes where I can provide a fixed service description and price for every situation.
The services listed above are therefore only an overview of some of the more formal and structured services I offer. My work extends much further than EHCP applications, checks and Tribunal appeals, and I provide tailored advocacy and case support across a wide range of SEND issues.
I have experience supporting families with complex EHCP matters, EOTAS and EOTIS, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), Section 19 alternative education duties, children and young people who are unable to access education, reduced timetables and attendance difficulties, independent and specialist school placements, securing provision specified within an EHCP, Annual Reviews, placement disputes, Local Authority delays and failures, and situations where communication or relationships between families, schools and Local Authorities have become particularly difficult.
The support I provide can include reviewing EHCPs, professional reports and other evidence; identifying gaps in assessment, evidence or provision; drafting formal letters, representations and letters of complaint; responding to schools and Local Authorities; supporting negotiations; preparing for and attending meetings; advocating on your behalf at meetings; challenging decisions; and providing ongoing advocacy where a case requires more than a single piece of work.
Sometimes you may simply need a carefully drafted letter. At other times, you may need someone to work through a complicated history, review a substantial amount of professional evidence, identify what has gone wrong and help determine the most appropriate way forward. I am comfortable working with complex cases and large volumes of documentation, bringing the relevant information together and turning it into clear, focused and evidence-based arguments.
The nature of this work is incredibly varied, which is why it is not always possible to place it within a predefined service or fixed price. If you cannot see a service above that reflects the support you need, please get in touch with a brief outline of your circumstances. I can let you know whether I am able to help, discuss what support may be appropriate and agree the scope and cost of any work with you before you decide whether you would like to proceed.
